2025​​

  • Fev-Mar: Dr. Cunha-Neto mentored students in their science project through the PlantingScience program run by the Botanical Society of America. 

​

  • Fev: Dr. Cunha-Neto visits the National Herbarium at the National Museum of Natural History (Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C.) to investigate samples of climbing plants from the maple family. 

​

2024​​

  • Nov: Caterina Gandolfi, along with other brilliant undergraduates from the Onyenedum lab, has been awarded the Dean's Undergraduate Research Fund. Congratulations! 

  • Sep: Caterina Gandolfi, a double major in Biology and Environmental Studies at NYU, joined the Onyenedum lab to investigate ectopic vascular meristems under the supervision of Dr. Cunha-Neto. 

  • Aug: Dr. Cunha-Neto and Dr. Alam have claimed the title of doubles champions for the second time at the Summer Tournament hosted by the Department of Biology at NYU! 

  • Aug: Dr. Cunha-Neto begins mentoring Caio Bispo, a master's student at Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, in collaboration with Dr. Arno F.N. Brandes from the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Brazil. Caio is researching the evolution of wood traits in tree species from the laurel family (Lauraceae) used for timber trade.

  • Aug: Dr. Cunha-Neto delivers a flash talk at the first Summer Symposium of the Department of Environmental Studies at NYU.

  • Jun: Dr. Cunha-Neto delivers a contributed presentation at Botany 2024 in Grand Rapids, MI.

  • Mar: Dr. Cunha-Neto and Dr. Ornob Alam (Purugganan's lab) win the Spring Ping Pong Tournament (Doubles category) from the Department of Biology at NYU. 

  • Fev: Dr. Cunha-Neto delivers a department seminar at the NYU Plant Labs Seminar and joins the Plant Postdoc Leadership Team (learn more about our community here).

  • Jan: Dr. Cunha-Neto attends the "Linux and HPC Bioinformatics Workshop" hosted by Dr. Manpreet S. Katari at NYU.

2023​

  • Dez: Natália F. Marques, graduate mentee, defends dissertation at the National Museum of Brazil.

  • Nov: Dr. Cunha-Neto delivers an invited Seminar at the Dept. of Plant Biology, Ecology, and Evolution at Oklahoma State University

  • Nov: A commentary on the paper "Molecular phylogeny of Urvillea (Paullinieae, Sapindaceae) and its implications in stem vascular diversity" by Dr. Alexandru M.F. Tomescu is published in Annals of Botany (link). 

  • Aug: The Onyenedum Lab moves to New York University (NYU).

  • Aug: Dr. Cunha-Neto starts serving on the Publications Committee of the Botanical Society of America (BSA).

  • Jul: Dr. Cunha-Neto presents talks at Botany 2023 in Boise, ID.

  • Jun: Dr. Cunha-Neto receives travel grants for conferences from the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB) and the Botanical Society of America (BSA). 

  • May: Dr. Cunha-Neto presents a guest lecture for the PLBIO 4400 Phylogenetic Systematics. 

  • Apr: Dr. Cunha-Neto organizes an outreach project to bring high school students to Cornell University. 

  • Feb: Dr. Cunha-Neto presents a virtual departmental seminar for the AMAP lab, France (University of Montpellier).

  • Nov: Dr. Cunha-Neto presents a guest lecture for the PLBIO 2480 Plant Systematics at Cornell University.

  • Oct: Dr. Cunha-Neto presents in virtual symposia at the 72nd Brazilian Botanical Congress (CNBot).

  • Ago: Dr. Cunha-Netopresents at the EvoDevo conference in Vancouver, Canada.

  • Jun: Dr. Cunha-Netovisits the Arnold Arboretum in Boston, MA.

  • Mar: Dr. Cunha-Neto receives the 2022 Sargent Award from the Arnold Arboretum.

  • Sep: Dr. Cunha-Neto joins the Onyenedum Lab at Cornell University’s School of Integrative Plant Science.

  • Sep: Dr. Cunha-Neto receives his Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo.
